Wymeswold Garden Walkabout

Wymeswold Garden Walkabout

Date: Sat, 24th Jun 2023 - Sun, 25th Jun 2023

Venue: Wymeswold Village

Wymeswold village is once again inviting you to wander round its gardens, big and small, at its annual Walkabout. This year, as well as some old favourites, there will be some new additions to explore.

Some of our gardens are traditional, some are quirky and individual and some will have artists displaying their work for you to admire.

When you need rest and refreshment, you will find tea and cake being served at the Memorial Hall from 2 o'clock until 5 o'clock.

Other attractions awaiting your discovery when walking around the village will be plant stalls, local bands playing (Sunday) and the Way of the Wyrd Morris Men (Saturday). For children, there will be a free discovery trail challenging them to find our new ladybird mascot hidden in the gardens.

We hope to see you (and that the weather is fine!)

Essential information:

Wymeswold is north of Loughborough on the A6006 (village centre postcode is LE12 6UF)

Parking is free. There will be two signposted carparks and also signposted, designated disabled parking.

Passports for garden entry are £5.00. (Unaccompanied children go free) They can be used on both days. The Passports contain a map of the gardens and information on where and when things will be happening and where to find refreshments, help if needed and toilets. They can be purchased at the car parks and from the Information Point on the village green.

All the proceeds go to local charities and organisations.

'Alien Invasion': An online video game by Ama Dogbe

'Alien Invasion': An online video game by Ama Dogbe

Fri, 3rd Nov 2023 - Sat, 27th Jan 2024

About Ama Dogbe
Ama Dogbe is a British-Ghanaian artist who builds video games, digital animations and audio-visual installations exploring autobiographical and utopian themes. Her recent work uses interactive virtual world-building as a tool to examine family, identity and the internet. She has created digital forests, sky mazes, and gleaming platforms that audiences can explore online. Her processes often use self-taught and collaborative techniques to produce experimental and unconventional outcomes. Ama has been commissioned by Spike Island, Bristol (2023) and tiata fahodzi, Watford (2022). She has also exhibited with Fermynwoods Contemporary Art (2022), East Bristol Contemporary (2022) and Attenborough Arts Centre, Leicester (2021).

About 'Alien Invasion'
Ama Dogbe presents a new version of Alien Invasion, an interactive web-based game. In Alien Invasion, figures descend upon a garden-like world, and players follow paths to uncover talismans, relics and icons. The game has been created in part through photogrammetry, the process of creating 3D digital outcomes from photographs. Using physical and digital repetition, Ama has created a web of symbols that are both strange and familiar. The game is accompanied by a soundtrack of electronic, ambient and contemporary hip-hop by musician Louis Jack. The video game will be available to play via the Modern Painters, New Decorators website. The project is funded by Arts Council England.
